Vegan Butcher Shops -Absolute Genius or Purely Diabolical?

With the vegan population experiencing steady growth, even the most dedicated meat-eater is succumbing to the occassional "meatless Monday".

Global warming and animal cruelty seem to be the two biggest concerns that drive individuals into the arms of the vegan lifestyle. A close third is being vegan for health benefits, especially with the recent WHO report condemning processed and certain red meats. Everywhere you look, there are resources, groups, and social media pages devoted to everything vegan. With all of this attention and growing popularity, a vegan butcher shop seemed to be the next evolutionary step.

Enter the Herbivorous Butcher. Siblings Aubrey and Kale Walch started their enterprise at the Minneapolis Farmers Market in June 2014. By January 2016, they were able to open their brick and mortar storefront.

This trail-blazing establishment boasts meatless deli cuts, barbeque, sausages and brats, and even filet mignon! They also have a variety of vegan atisan cheeses. You can check out their website and full menu here: http://www.theherbivorousbutcher.com/

During its time in existence, the Herbivorous Butcher has received an outpouring of positive reviews, although there are some who view this as a grave transgression against meat. Perhaps, with businesses like this, the meat substitute industry will be able to gain a more positive reputation.

What do you think of vegan butcher shops? Are they a temporary trend or a permanent fixture in society?
